When I called EastWest to report the transaction, the operator told me that I was billed four times that amount!, totalling PHP 20k++,” kwento ni Mendoza.

“I will call the National Privacy Commission Philippines to tell them that our contact details have been compromised AND that unscrupulous people have been using our details to scam us,” sabi ni Mendoza.

"BEWARE OF A SCAM BY SOMEONE CLAIMING TO BE FROM EastWest Bank.

So, while I was surfing the internet, someone called me on my number at 3:01 pm, claiming that he was from EAST WEST BANK. He told me that he was going to make my annual fee waived for life, plus a gift of a Timex watch. Naturally, I was so enamored because I thought the number was indeed from EastWest.

He was able to convince me that the OTP codes that were sent were for the bank, so I just gave it up. I was getting antsy about this deal but the man convinced me that there was no "monkey business" around, and that he would email me the transaction details as soon as it was done.

So, ayun, I was being given OTP codes from the merchant named BigBenta CORPORATION, eh doon pa lang medyo nakakahinala na, pero napakaconvincing nya kung magsasagot, ako naman si tanga, in-allow ko ang sarili ko na ibigay yung OTP code.

Now, after the call, and telling me that he would give me an email, the shit hit the fan for me.

Nagtext yung EW and said that I lost PHP 5215.00 and that my card was blocked. Eh wow buti sana kung PHP 5215 lang., When I called EastWest to report the transaction, the operator told me that I was billed four times that amount!, totalling PHP 20k++

My world shattered down when I heard that, pero I had to think fast, and the first thing I did was after receiving the dispute email was to call BigBenta.

I was able to reach the number on their website, pero the woman who received the call told me na kailangan daw yung 32-digit na reference number from PayMaya PayMayaCares. I said hindi ba ninyo malalaman yan on your own? sabi nila hindi raw. so many excuses blah blah blah blah.

So, I returned the call to EastWest, and they just confirmed to me that they do not have any 32-digit reference number from Paymaya in the system. So okay, I had no choice but to call Paymaya.

After 30 minutes, I told my situation to Paymaya, but they said that they are not linked with the said company (BigBenta) and that so many companies like them use Paymaya to scam. The Paymaya operator told me to file a police report, and send an email to them so they can file the necessary action.

But now, since I don't have in possession a cancellation slip or form, I wrote a request letter detailing what has happened to me.

So, I got a huge lesson learned here. I am still a big doofus when it comes to being sweet-talked by scammers and motherfuckers claiming that they can offer you some too good to be true deals like free annual fees for life and free watches.

And to EastWest, I hope you read this post of mine. You should be ashamed of yourselves that unscrupulous persons are calling us using our own bank documents and contact details. I will call the National Privacy Commission Philippines to tell them that our contact details have been compromised AND that unscrupulous people have been using our details to scam us.

This is the first time I have experienced among all the banks and credit cards that I have, and I always thought EastWest was safe. Hay nako.

And sa nanloko sa akin, 0945 704 6838 and BigBenta Corporation. makarma sana kayo."
