The former Ilocos Norte Governor clearly expressed her disagreement on Pres. Rodrigo Duterte's call to impose another tobbaco tax hike, a move that would primarily affect a large number of Ilokano farmers.
Tobacco is one of Ilocos Norte's principal products.
Despite being an ally of the Chief Executive, Marcos made her stance clear against the looming tax imposition, saying that the current taxes applied on tobacco products should be enough.
“Utang na loob, tigilan na kami naka-dalawang beses na ang Ilokano,” she said.

It was June of this year that the Senate approved a bill upping the cigarette prices to P60 in the next four years.
