On Friday, May 11, the Supreme Court fearlessly decided to oust the 24th Chief Justice of the Philippines, Ma. Lourdes Sereno, in historic ruling.
This after the SC justices granted the quo warranto petition filed against CJ Sereno by SolGen Calida.
With the vote of 8-6, the Supreme Court en banc voted in favor of the quo warranto petition to oust Sereno from the office on the premise of an invalid appointment.
The beleaguered Chief Justice attended the en banc session where 8 justices voted for the quo warranto.
Meanwhile, the 6 dissenters, according to at least two Court insiders, were as follows: Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio and Associate Justices Presbitero Velasco Jr, Mariano del Castillo, Estela Perlas Bernabe, Marvic Leonen, and Benjamin Caguioa.

Reportedly, Velasco, sources said, also agreed that it was the rightful remedy but the latter thought it was premature. He voted with the dissenters.
The complete details of the main decision have yet to be released.
The given verdict was expected from the en banc, whose members publicized disapproval on the Chief Justice in the early parts of the quo warranto's stint.
This scenario is a very historical one as this is the first time that the SC removed its own chief.
